6/5/2023 0 Comments Never get promotee in bjj![]() ![]() My new academy is great and within like 4 months ( training 4 days a week with sometimes 2x a day morning/evening + competing every other weekend and proving myself that I’m worth a fuckin blue belt ) I got promoted. In a way it’s like a job with promotions sometimes. I eventually ended up switching academies and found my niche for my personality and training style. Some of it I think was because of my race but it is what it is. I had a ton of grappling experience from sambo and wrestling at school but none of that mattered. Everyone who rolled with me said I was not a typical white belt. I was a 4 stripe white belt for a very long time. How do I know this? It happened at the first academy I trained at. The instructor will ask other black and brown belts if they feel you are ready to be promoted or if they like having you around. I know a few academies that are super political and frankly, their run like a popularity contest. Unpopular answer but sometimes this happens because they don’t like you.
